How to make a soy wax candle with a wooden wick?

  • How to make a soy wax candle with a wooden wick?

Detailed instructions + tips & tricks on how to create a candle with a wooden wick perfectly at the first time

The first step is the choice of wax. You must make sure that the wax is designed to make candles in containers. Most of us are accustomed to working with 100% soy wax and are not looking for alternatives. Perhaps when you work with soy wax, you have repeatedly noticed that certain problems arise that are difficult to solve. This is especially relevant for starter candle manufacturers. The first challenge when working with soy wax is to keep the smell. Soybean wax has the property of "sweating" (i.e. to extract the aromatic oil from the wax and spread it in small drops on the wax surface) if you use too much aromatic oil. Empty air cavities, frost and stains on glass are phenomena that are also difficult to control using 100% soy wax.

Although the stains on the glass and frost do not affect the use and burning properties of the candle, they do not look very nice on the glass.

To avoid these phenomena, we will reveal a few tricks:

    • Wash the glasses with warm water before pouring wax
    • Heat the dishes in a warm oven (38-43 C) to slow the wax stiffness
    • Add wax at warm room temperature (21-24 C)

These recommendations will certainly lead to better results. However, if you do not want to complicate yourself after all, we highly recommend to try Aurae soybean wax with chips with coconut for making candles in containers. This wax not only perfectly retains the smell, does not form sinkholes, does not leave stains on the walls of the glass, but also creates a smooth, matte surface without requiring a second filling. In addition, it is ideal for producing colored candles with BEKRO paint.
When choosing a scent, always pay attention to their purpose. They must be specially designed for the production of candles.
In addition, make sure that your chosen smell smells! If you want to make the highest quality candle from the best ingredients, we suggest using our Aurae fragrances.
Choosing exclusive, market-oriented, professional aromatic oils will create quality products. Our aromatic oils are quite digestible, so depending on the intensity of the desired smell, you will be enough 3-8% aromatic oil for the candle mixture. This will help ensure strong scent dispersion both during combustion and non-combustion.

Have you ever bought a candle, which smells wonderful on the shelf, but when it is lit at home, the smell no longer feels? Disappointment occurs... With the fragrances of Aurae, be sure of both good scent scattering with or without the candle burning.

After choosing wax and aromatic oils, choose a wick. This time we will produce with wooden wicks, which are characterized by extremely good scent dispersion during the burning of the candle.
It remains to choose the vessel. Safety is the most important factor in selecting vessels. The container must be safe and designed for candle production to prevent cracking during the burning of the candle. We suggest starting with small 200 ml glasses with a height of 78 mm, a diameter of 71 mm. These glasses have an extremely wide range of colors, cork and wooden lids and even boxes for their packaging. When using these glasses, it is recommended to click the wooden wick "Crackling Booster Wick .04", size 12.7 mm/152.4mm.

    Let's begin! We will need:

    • Aurae soybean wax 95% with coconut150 g
    • 205 ml cup
    • Aromatic or essential oil - 8-10 g
    • Striking wooden wick with holder (Booster Wick .04", size 12,7 mm/152.4mm)
    • Heating vessel with double bottom or two vessels (one for wax melting and the other for water heating for wax dissolving)
    • For the pour of wax
    • Thermometer
    • Good mood!

    Manufacturing recommendations:

    • Prepare the workplace - cover the area where you will work. This will protect the surface from wax spills or other unexpected failures.
    • Wash the glass with warm water and dry it.
    • Prepare a wooden wick. Cut it in half, making two wicks. Place the cut wick in the wick holder, stick the bottom sticker on the wick holder and place the prepared wick in the center of the glass. When pouring the wax you will not need to use any other tools to keep the wick in place.
    • Heat the wax to 75°C using a wax melting pot, remove from the fire, let the wax cool. If aromatic or essential oils are used, pour them immediately before bottling and stir for 2-3 minutes. Pour the wax into the pre-heated vessels when the wax reaches the bottling temperature of 55-65°C.
    • Slowly pour the mixture of wax and aromatic oils into your container. Leave a space of about 1 cm from the top of the container. I cm should be left for wooden wick inflammation.
    • We always recommend preparing wooden wicks of the right size in advance, measuring them and only then placing them in a container. This will avoid uneven wick adjustments after the candle is made. To ensure the correct burning of the wooden wick, do not leave it higher than 0.5 cm.

Before lighting the candle, let it stand for at least 24 hours (ideally 48 hours)
